ARCHAEOLOGISTS have observed evidence that a Stone Age “Cranium cult” carried out desperate religious rites at a Neolithic house of God in Turkey.

Researchers excavating the devastation of Göbekli Tepe found a broadcast of skull fragments bearing “designed deep incisions” or evening gaping holes.

Göbekli Tepe predates Stonehenge by up to 6,000 age and is often regarded as the world’s oldest holy place.

But it appears this ancient jar hides a dark secret.

Julia Gresky from the European Archaeological Institute found chunk of skulls with massive gash.

Some of the skulls appear to enjoy had the flesh cut away, whilst others dullard traces of red ochre which was very likely used in macabre religious ritual.

“The skulls were carved to respect ancestors not long after their demise or to put recently ‘dispatched’ antagonist on display,” the American Tie for the Advancement of Science wrote in a assertion.

“These modified skull piece could point to a new ‘Cranium cult’ – or ritual bevy – from the Neolithic interval.

“Throughout legend, people have valued skulls for deviating reasons, from ancestor love to the belief that human skulls repay protective properties.”

It’s not avowed whether the victims were in the land of the living when their skulls were gouged, or if they were gone.

People who fell victim to the Cranium cult was probably not scalped, but thither is evidence their heads were “defleshed”.

Researchers late unearthed evidence suggesting corrupt Chinese rulers enslaved detainee for years at a time before slaughtering them as ceremonious offerings to the gods.
