Getty DJIs drone range from £500 to £1,500
DJI said on Monday that the update will boost power supply during flight and improve takeoff and remote control of the £500 gizmos.
The Chinese manufacturer did not say why it had made the last minute decision.
There have been several reports of Spark drones falling out of the sky when their battery ran out.
Safety functions are supposed to limit drones operating on low battery from taking flight if there's a chance the power might cut out entirely and cause serious injuries.
A statement on DJI's website read: "If the firmware of either the aircraft or the battery is not updated by September 1, Spark will not be able to take off.
