FACEBOOK has rolled out a new update to the News Feed which could prove to be wildly unpopular.

Some users of the social network are now able to post comments featuring garishly colourful backgrounds , which you can see in the tweets below.

The colourful comments are now being tested across the world, although they are only available to some users through the mobile app.

Tech publication The Next Web described the new feature as “god-awful” and “obnxitous”, comparing it to Myspace, which was the biggest social network in the world between 2005 and 2008.

“We’re always exploring new ways for people to connect and have conversations, so we are testing new features on comment,” Facebook told the website.

On Twitter, people are already slagging of the new comments.

“I think we can both agree that the one thing Facebook was truly missing was Myspace like backgrounds with text on top,” product designer James Butler joked.

“Facebook testing out color comments… turning into Myspace much?” asked entrepreneur Justin Wu.

Well it's happened, Facebook had finally gone fully MySpace. 🌈🦄

The coloured comments function comes after Facebook introduced the ability to post status updates featuring only text and a garish background.

Tom Anderson, now 44, founded Myspace and then sold it for around £400million.

He now travels the world posting images to his Instagram account.

Myspace was known for allowing users to make their own profiles using whatever garish colours they wished.

Sadly, it was eclipsed by Facebook in 2008 and is nowhere near as popular as it once was.
