Rex Features Here's all you need to know about Labour MP and ex-Shadow Cabinet minister Chuka Umunna

Who is Chuka Ummuna?

Chuka Harrison Umunna was born in London to a Nigerian father and an English-Irish mother on 17 October 1978.

His dad, Bennett, died in a traffic accident in Nigeria in 1992 when he was in his early teens.

Umunna's mum, a solicitor, was the daughter of one of the prosecutors at the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals, Sir Helenus Milmo QC.

As a boy he attended primary school in Streatham, South London, before going the St Dunstan's College in Catford South East London.

From there he went on to study at universities in Manchester, Burgundy and Nottingham.

After university he became an employment layer in the City of London.

When did he become an MP and what is his constituency?

Umunna was elected as Labour MP for Streatham at the 2010 general election.

He was elected as a member of the Treasury Select Committee the same year and remained on the committee till he was appointed to Ed Milliband's Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Business Secretary in October 2011.

Following the loss of the 2015 general election and Ed Milliband's resignation he announced his candidacy for the leadership on 12 May only to withdraw three days later saying he had been "uncomfortable" with "the added level of scrutiny that came with being a leadership candidate".

Jeremy Corbyn went on to win the leadership which prompted Umunna's resignation from the Shadow Cabinet.

He supported Remain in the EU referendum.

Umunna has developed a reputation for a love of partying and sharp suits.
