BBC One Nicola Sturgeon said there could be two referendums on the cards
She said she would consider the case for a fresh vote to tear the UK apart as early as next year, and would continue to "make the case" for an independent Scotland until that time comes.
"People aren't quite ready to set the date for making another big decision," she told BBC Breakfast.
"Later next year hopefully we will see some of that clarity emerge."
It's been three years since the SNP lost the case to break away from the rest of the UK when Scotland rejected their calls for independence back in 2014.
But she insisted that the "chaos" of Brexit helped the case "get stronger".
Yesterday the First Minister was mocked for stressing that people still wanted the country to separate from the UK – despite the party losing a third of its Westminster seats in June's general election.
