Olly, who was in Oxford Street, tweeted from Selfridges department store.
He said: “F**k everyone get out of @selfridges now gun shots!! I’m inside.”
But as Olly told his 7.8million Twitter followers to “get out” the Met, which has 1.1million followers, was saying the opposite — urging people to “go into a building and stay inside”.
GMB presenter Piers Morgan had little time for Olly's tweetstorm.
He said: "Stop tweeting mate @ollyofficial. Nothing happened."
X Factor runner up Olly defended himself and replied: "Listen piers! I was shopping and then all of sudden the whole place went mad, I mean crazy people running & screaming towards exits.
"If you was there you’d have understood mate."
Former Britain's Got Talent judge Piers responded: "No. You listen, Olly. When you have millions of followers be very careful what you tweet."
And he accused the star of "stirring extra panic" with his posts on the social media site.
Piers later told Olly: "Leave it to the police next time", adding that the pop star "could have put people in more danger."
