THERESA May has been accused by a police union of “losing touch with reality” after claiming some officers had enjoyed a 32 per cent salary increases as the row over public sector pay deepened.

The Police Federation of England and Wales branded the claim a “downright lie” – saying wages had in fact fallen 16% in real terms since 2010
